How the gap works
Monofilament pile yarns hold the two cover layers apart. Under sleeping load they bend rather than collapse, and they spring back when the load comes off, so the channel between mattress and berth board stays open in use.
Warm, humid air from the cabin moves through that channel and leaves at the open edges instead of reaching the cold side and condensing there.
Fire safety compliant with the IMO 2010 FTP Code, part 9 (bedding components), tested. Test report on request.

Three steps, no tools
Remove the berth cushion and clear the board. No fasteners, no adhesive, nothing to drill.
Place the cut panel over the full berth area, running the length of the berth. Edges may be trimmed with scissors on board.
Set the cushion back on top. The gap works from the first night and stays open under sleeping load.
